Good "horror in the hood" movies are always hard to find. In most cases the only good ones are the ones that don't take themelves seriuosly and ultimately make fun of the society in which they were conceived. APRIL FOOLS 2007 is, sadly, not one of those films. The humor of the time period it was created is lacking, but the struggle of the streets, gang life, and escape from ghetto life is refreshing in comparison to the 2008 remake of the 80's masterpiece that pitted rich kids against their own egos. APRIL FOOLS 2007 is a film about bullying and living the ghetto life, its also a straight slasher flick in the end. Once you get over the fact that its hard to tell if this is a porn (the music and acting especially) or horror flick its actually not the worst you'll ever see, but sadly, not a great representation of black cinema, or a lasting impression on April 1st. I guess when deciding between this one and the 2008 remake of the 1986 film it all depends on if you'd rather see rich kids get hunted down or gang-bangers. Or better yet, watch the original 1986 film.
