According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Matt Ryan, who starred as Constantine in NBC's live-action series of the same name, will voice his animated alter ego in the animated series, which will debut on The CW's digital streaming platform CW Seed sometime in the 2017–2018 television season. The CW has ordered five to six 10-minute episodes for the show's first season.
Following the one-season run of Constantine, Ryan went on to play the supernatural investigator in one episode of The CW's Arrow as well as in the Warner Bros. animated movie Justice League Dark.
According to IGN, The CW President Mark Pedowitz mentioned that it's not yet known how or if the Constantine cartoon will connect to the live-action Constantine series, or if anyone else from the previous NBC show will appear in animated form in the future, although Pedowitz did confirm that the animated show is part of the "Arrowverse."
