BEYOND THE GATES Trailer and Poster from IFC Midnight

Available in select theaters, on VOD, and via digital platforms on December 9th from IFC Midnight.

SYNOPSIS
A retro-cool blast from the day-glo 1980s past, Beyond the Gates zaps viewers back to a time when VHS ruled, video stores were meccas for horror fans, and shocks came with a healthy dose of schlock. In the wake of their father’s mysterious disappearance, two estranged brothers—responsible Gordon (Graham Skipper of ALMOST HUMAN) and reckless John (Chase Williamson of JOHN DIES AT THE END)—reunite to sift through the contents of his stubbornly anachronistic VHS rental store. Among the inventory, they discover an interactive VCR board game, which their father viewed just before he vanished. Intrigued, the boys pop in the tape, press play, and soon discover that, far from an ordinary game, the video is a portal to a nightmarish alternate reality overseen by a sinister hostess (cult horror icon Barbara Crampton) and that in order to save their father’s soul, they must play by her rules. Bursting with eye-popping practical effects, an unsettling synth score, and wicked black humor, Beyond the Gates puts a fresh spin on old-school terror.

my top 13 "Final Girls".... Honorable Mention

What's a 'Final Girl' you might ask? She's the last woman standing at the end of a horror film. Usually the one who defeats the killer. In this list, I'll give you my top 13 'Final Girls' in horror of all time. Without furtur ado....

Honorable Mention: Wendy from 'Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead' played by Kate Graham
I would be remiss if I didn't mention Wendy from 'Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead'. It's a big, silly, gross out, horror comedy from the minds of Troma Studios and Lloyd Kaufman. Where else can you find Native American chicken zombies in a musical? One of my favorite zombie films and a big reason why, is because of the lovely Kate Graham. She's a "Final Girl" in every sense of the word and needed to included my list somewhere.

'Hold the "Cell" Phone' My review of 'Cell' by William S Mayfield

I read this book years ago and I remember it being pretty good. Not earth shattering but for me to get all the way through a Stephen King book says something. Now put down the pitchforks, I didn't say the man can't write I'm just not a fan of his overall style. Now that being said let me get to my spoiler free review of Cell. Our story starts off as Clay Riddel (John Cusack) is returning home from what I gather was a business trip. He contacts his family and that's where all hell breaks loose. Doesn’t take long for the story to kick in to gear. As by the title of this you can gather that Cell phones play a part in this story. Clay is in a airport when this call goes out to any cell phone that is active and anyone that is unfortunate enough to answer one quickly goes what I can only describe as crazy violent. I know we have all heard from more than one person that cell phones are evil and destroying the very fabric of social interaction. And to that I say if it's a problem just put down the phone, but this is not my rant against old phone haters. Anyway early in the story Clay comes across Tom Mcourt played by the ever entertaining Samuel L.Jackson. As the duo starts to piece together what's going on they are joined by the third member of the group, Alice Maxwell played by the very lovely Isabelle Furhman. It's at this point the story takes on a different tone because she is much younger than Clay and Tom so they naturally view her as someone they need to protect especially with her history. And I also felt the same way as a viewer because I have two daughters and I can't help but put myself in this situation with these characters wondering what if this was me and my girls. They run to some more people here and there. One part at a boarding school I felt the director breezed past because the part in the novel was a bigger part of the story.

This movie is part end of the world part supernatural, but then again it is based on a Stephen King novel. There is some supernatural elements to it but from what I remember not as much as the book did. All in all it's a ok movie. The ending is well a little confusing. Now that its been a few days and I've had time to think the whole third act is very confusing. . I don't want to say to much about the plot because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who might want to watch it. I will say it's a new take on the zombie/infected genre and I kind of like it, I see where it could have gone but just kind of fizzled. I give it a 2 out of 5.

Uber Spencer reviews 'You're Next' (2011)

Introduction, who am I? Well I am glad you asked! I am a Uber Spencer, a 17 year old who was born and raised in the mid-west and have been a member of this wonderful Creepercast since mid to late 2013 and have loved every minute of it! I first came across Creepercast in 2012 when I listened to Episode 2 which was the Rob Zombie retrospective of House of 1000 Corpses, Devils Rejects and Halloween and H2. I loved the podcast from the beginning and it wasn't till after I sent in my first review which was Bad Kids go to Hell and sent in my 1st voice message that I started dwelling more into the podcast. So in closing please I cannot say this enough, read my reviews including...

YOU'RE NEXT (2011)

I don't care what people say about "The Purge" being a crappy home invasion film, I loved it! I also loved "You're Next"! "You're Next" is an interesting film with a cliffhanger that makes you go "huh?" The film follows Erin, Crispian, Aubrey and Paul (Crispians parents), Drake and Kelly (Crispians brother and sister in law), Felix and Zee (Crispians brother and Felix's girlfriend) and Aimee and Tariq (Crispians sister and her boyfriend) at a family reunion. During an argument Tariq see's something outside and is shot in the head with a cross bow causing panic amongst everyone. In the midst of the commotion Drake is shot in the back and as Aimee try's to run outside she gets her throat slit by a wire. As everything goes to hell Erin manages to raise hell and kick butt. NO SPOILERS FOR THIS FILM!

Positives: I loved the film and I thought the twist was amazing and just the sight of those creepy animal masks made me cringe. When that girl looked under the bed and the Sheep Mask looked at her I jumped and told myself "no way in heck am I looking under my bed now!! no fricken way!" The kills were really cool, the wire mentioned above, the Lamb Mask killing (edited for spoilers). There’s one trap that Erin sets where she puts nails through wood and places it on the floor but Lamb Mask sees it and steps through but (edited for spoilers). Early on Tiger Mask attacks Erin and try's to kill her with the axe and I kept yelling at my TV "KICK HIM IN THE BALLS!" She rolled out of the way and I said "Just kick him in the balls come on!" Which she did so I was happy.

Negatives: I thought the twist was horrible and like I said, no spoilers. But I just hated the twist, it just sickens me to the core!

Overall it was an excellent home invasion film and, like I said, say what you will but I loved "The Purge" but this film does slightly better for me with the excellent kills and twist. I have to give this a 4/5 stabs just because the twist was kinda unexpected for me. I just want to thank everybody who has read my reviews. I hope because of these reviews you will check these films out.
