Horro Music NEWS: RONNIE JAMES DIO Reunites with Bandmates via Hologram At Wacken Open Air Music Festival

Music and special effects vets at Eyellusion debut rock's first hologram production based on industry-leading capabilities for the ultimate live fan experience!

Over 75,000 fans were rocked at the Wacken Open Air music festival in Germany this weekend as the late Ronnie James Dio reunited with his bandmates via hologram. The surprise performance took place at the end of Dio Disciples' set to close the world's largest annual live heavy metal event. Dio Disciples features members of the Dio band, which last performed with Ronnie in 2008 before he passed away two years later, leaving a void in the rock community. Eyellusion, a hologram entertainment company focused on the live music market, created the hologram and produced the groundbreaking performance.

Almost one year in the making, Eyellusion's Ronnie James Dio production represents the world's first rock hologram performance and the first time a hologram has been accompanied by a live band in a traditional concert setting. The Wacken Open Air Festival marked the debut of the Ronnie James Dio hologram, which features the singer's actual live vocals and will be toured globally in 2017, with further details to be announced.

"When I first experienced the full production of Ronnie performing with his band as a hologram, I couldn't believe my eyes and ears," said Wendy Dio, who manages Dio Disciples and is also a member of the Eyellusion team, supporting industry relations. "With Eyellusion, we have been able to get Ronnie back up on stage where he belongs, ensuring that his music and memory live on. I want Ronnie's fans around the world to share this experience."

"We know how much the fans miss Ronnie and the special and unequaled element that he brought to his live performances," said Craig Goldy, lead guitarist for Dio Disciples. "Being able to recreate that same kind of magic for his fans at Wacken was incredible. For so many years Ronnie always invested big in his live shows as his way to give back to the fans, and that is exactly what we aimed to do with this latest performance. We can't wait to bring this experience to even more of his fans and perhaps even a newer generation when we bring this incredible live experience on the road next year."

"At first I did not know what to think or to expect. But after I got over the initial surprise, it felt like Ronnie was still with us. It was wonderful, sad and emotional,"
stated David James of California, a fan present for the performance at Wacken Open Air.

"I have watched quite a few hologram clips online and nothing can compare to the performance here tonight at Wacken - this was the most realistic of all. Amazing! Ronnie James Dio and metal will live forever," added Anna Lorenz, a 25-year-old fan from Germany, also in attendance.

"Eyellusion is creating the best hologram content and live music productions for a completely new concert experience," said Jeff Pezzuti, CEO of Eyellusion. "We're taking every step to capture the excitement and energy that comes from seeing your favorite band perform live. That means when the lights go down in the venue, the amps are loud, the band sounds great and the pyro is blinding. We are creating an entirely new way for fans to experience their favorite music."

Touring remains a viable revenue stream for many artists as music industry business models continue to evolve. However, it is not always financially or physically feasible to get to every market where there is demand. Further, massive loyal fan bases still exist for artists that are no longer able to tour or that can only do a set number of dates within a year. Eyellusion is expanding touring opportunities for emerging and established acts alike. In addition to unique shows based around digital recreations of artists, Eyellusion can stream live holographic performances of one show to many locations, opening global possibilities to play new markets and venues.

"The economics of making music are changing, with tours being more important than ever,"said Wendy Dio. "For artists who have been blessed with legions of fans around the world, the question is how to continue meeting the demand for your music. At the same time, newer acts are thinking about how to build a following and reach more people. Today, all artists need to find new, modern ways to connect with fans and Eyellusion is supporting those efforts."

Eyellusion's hologram and live production focus spans a range of genres, including rock, country, pop, EDM and more. Key team members include Wendy Dio, who supports industry relations, veteran rock manager Todd Singerman and Pat DiNizio of the Smithereens, who support artist relations, and Kenny Aronoff, world renowned live and studio drummer, who supports business development and technical live production efforts. Chad Finnerty at Digital Frontier FX is Eyellusion's exclusive content creation partner, working directly with clients to help bring every project vision to the live stage. Legendary Hollywood digital effects executive Scott Ross advises Eyellusion on overall content production.

"Holograms represent a major opportunity for live music and fan engagement, but they have to be done right," said Pezzuti. "We believe we've cracked the code on delivering the highest quality hologram-based events, creating the ultimate live music experience that keeps fans coming back. The Eyellusion team's unmatched production capabilities and deep music industry ties bring crucial industry knowledge to our collaboration with artists as we work toward a shared vision of creating unforgettable shows. We can't wait to see music fans everywhere on the road."

But when several of these talismans—which once belonged to a notorious mass murderer—find their way into the hands of unsuspecting residents of a small Southern town, it sets off a grisly wave of bloodshed. The latest from Rites of Spring director Padraig Reynolds is a voodoo-slasher shocker bursting with scarily inventive kills.  Christopher Wiehl, Kym Jackson and Tina Lifford star.

my thoughts on.... 'Last Shift' (an original Creepercast site review)

As with all of my reviews of the independent films that we get sent here at The Creepercast, I fully recommend that you check each and every one of them out. I am one man and this is my opinion. I've seen plenty of movies that received reviews that were the complete opposite of how I saw the film. These writers, directors, producers and actors all put a lot of time and love into these projects. They deserve to be seen and appreciated for what they are. Everyone has a dream and I fully support the people that take the time to make theirs a reality. With that being said....
Netflix is like that annoying friend that seems to know better than you. However, no matter how many times they tell you to watch something, you ignore them. Almost out of the desire to not do what you're told, good old fashioned spite. Eventually, they either convince you and you don't want to admit it or you ignore it until 8 years later, once the statute of limitations is past and you finally watch. 'Last Shift' is one of those movies that Netflix kept telling me to watch. All of the Facebook groups for horror films and for Netflix streaming movies, kept telling me to watch. It just kept popping up left and right, it was non stop. I kind of hated it. The cover art really turned me off, but deep down.... the concept fascinated me. I really wanted to keep putting it off and to just let it slip into oblivion, however.... I gave in last night and finally watched it. I hate to admit it, but all the pushing was somewhat justified. Maybe it's not going to change the face of modern horror, but it's above average for sure.

The story line focuses on our heroine, Jessica Loren (played very smartly by Juliana Harkavy), who's a rookie cop that's been assigned to babysit a police station on it's last night before closing down. The entire police department has moved to a new location, but it's kind of a mystery as too why. Little does Jessica know, that she's about to find out the truth.... about the police station, the secrets contained within and how she's tied to it all. Over the course of the evening, she idle's away her time alone, in anticipation of earning the respect of her captain. Things start out slowly at first, but soon more and more things start to happen and quickly take a violent turn. Jessica pieces together that a cult leader and two of his devoted followers had killed themselves after a murderous spree had left a trail of dead in it's wake. It seemed that in their death, they had been resurrected and had come back to destroy anyone in their way. Unfortunately, Jessica happened to be the last victim on their list.
Directed and co-written by Anthony DiBlasi, 'Last Shift' is an exercise in minimalism horror. I don't know if that's a real thing, but that's what I'm going to refer to it as. Simple sets, story line and very few actors. That's not a bad thing. Sometimes, less is more. In the case of 'Last Shift', it worked in it's favor. Not unlike the incredibly creepy and amazingly underrated remake of 'Nightwatch' (1997), starring Ewan McGregor and Patricia Arquette. It's a similar set up and very similar feel, but they are not even remotely the same films. Where 'The Late Shift' succeeds is in it's build up of tension and it's lack of blatant exposition. It allows the viewer to learn what's happening as the characters in the film learn what's happening. You're never entirely sure where the reality ends and where the supernatural or imagined parts begin. It sets you on edge and makes you question what you're seeing going on around you. Where this film fails, is primarily in the last 5 minutes. Up to that point, it's a solid story line, that holds the viewers attention and keeps you guessing. Sadly, it's as if someone was reading a book on cliched third acts and they took a page out of that book and pasted it to the script and called it good. It's just lazy writing and for a film that had such promise, it ended up being a rather big letdown. I wouldn't tell people to stay away entirely. The film has it's merits and is worth the hour and half of your life. I mean, if you've got nothing else to do over the weekend, this would make a great Saturday night popcorn flick.

All in all, I give 'Last Shift' a solid 3 out of 5 stars. It has room for improvement, but with all of the garbage that gets made and then pushed on us by streaming services, it's nice to find a little diamond in the rough. If you like your horror a little bit claustrophobic, with a dash of cop shock, some culty type shenanigans and a hobo pissing on a police station floor.... then this is the movie for you. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this one and think there's a little something in it for every creep out there. I'd be curious to find out if anyone else felt as let down by the ending, like I did? Maybe I've just become too much of a jaded horror fan, in my older years. I can't say that I've seen everything, not even close. However, I've seen a lot and at this point I like to wined and dined a little before my date makes their big move. 'Last Shift' got to third base, only to strike out while heading for home plate. I also have a feeling it won't call in the morning. You've been given fair warning, for better or worse.

If you like this film, also check out: 'Nightwatch' (1997), 'Maniac Cop' and 'Let Us Prey'

my thoughts on.... 'The Cabining' (an original Creepercast site review)

They deserve to be seen and appreciate for what they are. Everyone has a dream and I fully support the people that take the time to make theirs a reality. With that being said....
Back in the day, I went to film school. Columbia College in downtown Chicago, to be exact. I had greater aspirations of making it big with my creative screenplays, living in Chicago and enjoying a life of unbridled success. While I was there, I also studied directing and producing, in an attempt to be a more well rounded film maker. During the course of my studies, I came across a lot of different ideas and concepts for screenplays. Some really good and some not so much. I myself came up with several that I look back on now and cringe and other one's that I wish I would have seen through to the end. This movie reminded me of those days. Collaborating with a partner on some projects and sometimes working on your own. It's never ceased to amaze me how some ideas seem amazing and original in the beginning, but end up just really being re-hashes of old concepts and ideas that have been seen 100 times before. Then.... just when you think the muse has died, a massive burst of inspiration hits you and you write the next great American movie. 'The Cabining' isn't the next great American movie, but it takes a fun and VERY entertaining look at the whole process, but with a very stabby twist.

'The Cabining' is the brainchild of Steve Kopera (writer/director) and David Silverman (co-writer). It stars Steve's brother, Mike Kopera as Todd. The oddly charming Bo Keister as Bruce. Angela Relucio and Melissa Mars as the lovely Mindy and Celeste. Luce Rains in a fun little turn as our potential killer Jasper. Then, from left field, we have a mystery guest star.... Mr. Richard Riehle as Sarge! The main cast is surrounded by other very talented actors and actresses who provide a strong support system and who play just as important a role as our leading men and women. The storyline feels a bit similar to some films you may have already seen, including some moments that smack of 'Tucker and Dale vs. Evil'. I am not saying that in any negative way, just an observation that made things a little distracting at times. Other than that, the story moves along at a quick pace and never makes you stop and wonder what's taking so long?!?! The murders are entertaining and frequent enough to hold even the most jaded movie goer ransom in their seat.
Our basic storyline tells us the tale of Todd and Bruce. It begins at the end, with Bruce caught in bed with a woman with a knife in her back and Todd thinking he's murdered her. After Bruce tries his best to convince Todd that he didn't do it, we suddenly flashback to before it all happened. Back to where we meet two screenwriters who are on the verge of writing the movie that will change everything for them, but they're running out of time. The money is almost gone and their screenwriting group basically told them that what they've written so far, a movie called 'Bloody Hell', is crap. They need a change and a bit of inspiration. Sarge, the man who's funding the hopes and dreams for Todd and Bruce, tells them that if they don't produce something soon.... he's going to give all of his money to Todd's cousin. Bruce gets the bright idea that if he takes his unemployment money and invests it in a trip to Shangri-La, an artists resort, everything will change. They'll write the script they've been dreaming of and everything will good again. Despite Todd's misgivings with the idea, he reluctantly goes along. Soon, their fellow artists starting dying off.... one by one. Seemingly by accident, but the police are involved soon anyway. As the bodies pile up and the accusations fly, you'll never see the twist ending coming! Or will you?

This is a great little indie horror comedy that does well to balance both things and make a lot out of a smaller budget. It has a great soundtrack and the overall sound in the movie, is done really well. Great editing and I really love the establishing shot when they get to Shangri-La, it's brilliant. There's a couple of lighting issues here and there, but you're just nit picking at that point. This is a very self aware, movie within a movie, sort of. It's fairly sharp and the dialogue is somewhat natural. I could have used slightly better performances out of our leads, but I've see some indies that were far far worse. If you have some time to kill and have access to a copy of 'The Cabining', I recommend you sit back and enjoy. This is a 3 ¼ out of 4 star movie that shows promise of bigger and better things to come from Steve Kopera, David Silverman, Mike Kopera and Bo Keister. There was genuine love in the making of this movie and it came shining through in every scene.
The last two things: 1) the character of Monroe, could have easily been played by Michael Parks 2) Stick around through the credits, for an amazing performance by Mother Acid!
