Honorable Mention:
Wendy from 'Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead' played by Kate Graham
I hope you've enjoyed this list and feel free to contribute your own thoughts on the topic! Yes, Ellen Ripley is noticeably absent here, but I never saw the 'Alien' franchise as horror.... in the traditional sense. For my top sci-fi "Final Girls" list, she'll be right there at the top! Also, I must mention the original final girl: Lila Crane from 'Psycho'. Without her, there would be no list to begin with. Sweet nightmares, Creeps!

my top 13 "Final Girls".... Honorable Mention

What's a 'Final Girl' you might ask? She's the last woman standing at the end of a horror film. Usually the one who defeats the killer. In this list, I'll give you my top 13 'Final Girls' in horror of all time. Without furtur ado....

Honorable Mention: Wendy from 'Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead' played by Kate Graham
I would be remiss if I didn't mention Wendy from 'Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead'. It's a big, silly, gross out, horror comedy from the minds of Troma Studios and Lloyd Kaufman. Where else can you find Native American chicken zombies in a musical? One of my favorite zombie films and a big reason why, is because of the lovely Kate Graham. She's a "Final Girl" in every sense of the word and needed to included my list somewhere.

#1: Sidney Prescott from 'Scream' played by Neve Campbell
She may be a controversial choice, but Sidney Prescott has always seemed to be the epitome of the "Final Girl". She starts out as a normal teenager who is thrust into a situation she can't control and has to grow up quickly, in order to save her own life. We then proceed to follow her life as she grows up in the shadow of being the victim over and over again. In the end, Sidney always walks away with her life, but she never walks away without the scars of being a survivor. That is why she's my choice for the ultimate "Final Girl".

#2: Laurie Strode from 'Halloween' played by both Jamie Lee Curtis and Scout Taylor Compton
Our final character played by multiple actresses, Laurie Strode was cursed with the worst brother in horror film history. Pursued by Michael Myers for most of her life, Laurie defeated him over and over again, but eventually met her fate.... in the original franchise only.

#3: Nancy Thompson from 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' played by Heather Langenkamp
When people think of the "Final Girl", Nancy Thompson always comes to mind first. She survived both dreams and reality coming to kill her, before Kristen Parker came on the scene and took up her mantle. Nancy grew up fighting Freddy Krueger and was strong enough to live throughout the entire franchise.

#4: Alice Abernathy from 'Resident Evil' played by Milla Jovovich
The Umbrella Corporation created the ultimate final girl in Alice. She's fought her way through 6 films and has probably killed more zombies and monsters than all our other contenders combined.

#5: Alice Hardy from 'Friday the 13th' played by Adrienne King
Betsy Palmer singled out the counslers of Crystal Lake for her revenge, but didn't expect Alice to make her lose her head. She, sadly, didn't make it past part 2.... but she'll always be remembered fondly.

#6: Cherry Darling from 'Planet Terror' played by Rose McGowan
Rose McGowan may not have made it through the first 'Scream' film, but she made it through 'Planet Terror' coming out the other side better than ever. This is an example of the next level of 'Final Girl'. She may not be the most badass woman on the list, but she's close.

#7: Kristen Parker from 'A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors' and 'A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master' played by Patricia Arquette and Tuesday Knight
Another example of the "Final Girl" being played by two different actresses. Kristen is one of the most beloved heroines to face off against Freddy Krueger. She started out as a troubled teen and ended up making trouble for the villan we all love to hate.

#8: Sally Hardesty from 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' played by Marilyn Burns
It all started out as a road trip, that quickly descended into a living hell on earth. Before Strech took on Leatherface, there was Sally Hardesty. One of the original incarnations of the "Final Girl".

#9: Jennifer Hills from 'I Spit On Your Grave' played by Camille Keaton and Sarah Butler
She may have been portrayed in the original and remake by two different actresses, but both of them have the same revenge streak inside. She lives through all of her captors torments, only to come back and take each man down.... one by one.

#10: Stretch Brock from 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2' played by Caroline Williams
DJ by night, Leatherface survivor by day. Stretch embodies the true spirit of the "Final Girl". Mild mannered and fun loving in the beginning, but will take on anyone and everyone to make it through the night. Plus, the final scene says it all.

#11: Angela Vidal from '[REC]' played by Manuela Velasco
One of the best examples of the viral/plague subgenre, '[REC]' introduced us to Angela Vidal. She came in as a reporter and ended up being a sole survivor. She may not have kicked as much butt until the later films, but she still earned her place on my list.

#12: Sarah Carter from 'The Descent' played by Shauna Macdonald
A broken woman who has to overcome a continuing onslaught of terror, she steps up and takes control. She's a prime example of a woman who rises to the occasion in every way.

my top 13 "Final Girls".... #13

#13: Mary from 'The Day' played by Ashley Bell
An unknown background and very apprehensive friendship with her fellow survivors, Mary proves that she is needed in their group. Without her, things would have gone very differently. She's a badass who doesn't take crap from anyone. A well deserved spot on my list and one that you might not be familiar with.
