my top 13 "Final Girls".... #4

What's a 'Final Girl' you might ask? She's the last woman standing at the end of a horror film. Usually the one who defeats the killer. In this list, I'll give you my top 13 'Final Girls' in horror of all time. Without furtur ado....

#4: Alice Abernathy from 'Resident Evil' played by Milla Jovovich
The Umbrella Corporation created the ultimate final girl in Alice. She's fought her way through 6 films and has probably killed more zombies and monsters than all our other contenders combined.

5 Serial Killer Movies You May Have Not Yet Seen (and Should) Honorable Mentions Darling and The Voices

There's no secret that some of our favorite horror movies deal with those creepy bastards that stalk us and want to do unspeakably horrible things to us. From 'Psycho' to 'Hannibal' they have endeared us with their quirkiness, style, and finesse. With glorious one liners and clever kills, they are a fascination both in fiction and reality. Hell, how do think the Creepercast got its name? Speaking of how we got our name, two of the films on this list helped make Creepercast great and connected us with amazing film makers and actors we now call friends. So, without further pontificating, here are 5 serial killer films we believe deserve your attention a little more than the rest...

Honorable Mention goes too...

Darling (2015)

A lonely young woman descends into madness when she becomes the caretaker of a mysterious New York mansion that has a troubled past.

Mickey Keating's decent into madness tale that may or may not have a ghost involved. Brought to us from Glass Eye Pictures and featuring Lauren Ashley Carter, Darling is a wicked entry into the Death Wave phenomenon currently sweeping through horror. Deliciously dark and devious.

Voices (2014)

A mentally unhinged factory worker must decide whether to listen to his talking cat and become a killer, or follow his dog's advice to keep striving for normalcy.

Ryan Reynolds is well known for sneaking a few unexpecteds into his repertoire, and this time he took Anna Kendrick with him. A brilliantly dark humored trip into the mind of true madness. Also contains commentary on how drugs may be keeping us from seeing the reality of the horrors we are faced with daily.

"The new face of Goth Rock" - Outburn Magazine, July 2016

Alternative goth rockers DEATH VALLEY HIGH are just under two months shy of releasing their most advanced record yet, CVLT [AS FVK], out November 4 via Minus Head Records. Produced by Ulrich Wild, recognized for his work with top rock and metal artists Deftones, White Zombie, Dethklok and others, CVLT [AS FVK] promises new wave/dance beats, cinematic rock instrumentation and gritty, sensual pop hooks amidst it's 12 solid anthems.

DEATH VALLEY HIGH's pop-sensibility and macabre energy are what set them apart from the pack, and their single "WARM BODIES" hits upon both facets. As vocalist/guitarist Reyka Osburn told Alternative Press at the time of the track's original premiere, "It could be said that "WARM BODIES" expresses a 'people need people' sentiment, but that's only at its core. The song does start with this universal hunt for vitality, but it in the end, it lures itself into a deep, carnal feeding frenzy for life."

What better way to portray the need for warm bodies than by way of a horror film! That was the stance DEATH VALLEY HIGH took when creating the new highly-NSFW music video for "WARM BODIES", which presents itself as a mini horror flick sprinkled with casual drug use, sexual vigor and plenty of undead attacks met with equal human fury. Take a peek, if you dare, exclusively via Bloody-Disgusting now: http://bloody-disgusting.com/music/3407720/nsfw-death-valley-high-sexy-zombies-warm-bodies-exclusive/

The "WARM BODIES" video was directed by Brain Cox at Flarelight Films (All Hail the Yeti, Hollywood Undead, Gemini Syndrome).

Osburn comments, "We wanted the video for "WARM BODIES" to have some unexpected turns so that the viewer would have their expectations abruptly altered while watching. We sought to make sure some of the video was filmed in black and white so that the mind-altering state of our lead characters would translate to the viewer once it changed to color - like watching a campy old horror film that turns into an 80's action film. We intentionally chose to not include band performance footage or images so we could really get the story concept across, although, if you keep a keen eye during the mini movie, you might catch a glimpse of our scary faces."

Pre-orders for CVLT [AS FVK] are now available via Amazon and iTunes, the latter of which includes both "WARM BODIES" & "GROEI DONKER (GROW DARK)" as instant grat tracks with your pre-order. You can also stream "WARM BODIES" now via Spotify.

CVLT [AS FVK] track listing:

3. PSALM BITCH
4. ICK SWITCH
5. PLAY DEAD
6. GROEI DONKER (GROW DARK)

9. 12:13 [AS MANY FVKS]
10. FLOWERS FOR AMY DEVILLE

With one listen it's clear - DEATH VALLEY HIGH's CVLT [AS FVK] stands at the forefront with an offering of the catchiest, most unforgettable songs of the band's career. DEATH VALLEY HIGH has always incorporated a gothic sensation, but they fully embrace it on CVLT [AS FVK]. Since the release of 2013's Positive Euth, DEATH VALLEY HIGH has logged over two years on the road, touring alongside everybody from Mindless Self Indulgence and (Crosses) to Filter, Orgy and Vampires Everywhere! These experiences left a permanent imprint on the band.

Stay tuned for more coming from DEATH VALLEY HIGH leading up to the November 4 release of CVLT [AS FVK].

ITHACA FANTASTIK ANNOUNCES FULL 2016 LINEUP

Ithaca Fantastik will unleash its fifth annual film festival Nov. 9–13 in Ithaca, NY. The IF team has carefully crafted a lineup to offer something for every fantastic film lover.

The festival has horror fans covered, with some of the year’s stand-out genre gems. Fantastic Fest award winner “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” (André Orvedal) will lead the pack, followed closely by the ‘knock your socks-off’, “Safe Neighborhood” (Chris Peckover)—a coming of age twist on home invasion that the IF team calls one of the most fun films of 2016. Horror lovers will be delighted by action-packed “Headshot” (Kimo Stamboel, Timo Tjahjanto), socially-infused zombie anime “Seoul Station” (Yeon Sang-ho), disturbing “Pet” (Carles Torrens), as well as an over-the-top Indian take on a zombie breakout: “Miruthan” (Shakti Soundar Rajan).

Extreme horror will be well-represented with yakuza tale “Kiyamachi Daruma” (Hideo Sakaki), and “K-Shop” (Dan Pringle), a fun horror film with deeply-anchored social commentary on British society. Plus, the wickedly fun Japanese response to Freddy vs Jason: “Sadako vs Kayako” (Kōji Shiraishi).

Festival offerings will go far beyond pure horror to provide a wide view into the fantastic genre. From enchanting love story “Aloys” (Tobias Nölle), to mental-illness-exploring biopic “I, Olga Hepnarová” (Tomás Weinreb, Petr Kazda), to mumblecore horror comedy “Another Evil” (Carson D. Mell) and Argentinean horror commentary “Terror 5” (Sebastian Rotstein, Federico Rotstein). Sci-Fi fans have not been forgotten; IF will present mind-blowing anime “Nova Seed” (Nick DiLiberto) and the newest trippy film from Hikaru Tsukuda: Return of MIZUNO—these movies will be an excellent segway into horror for those new to the genre.

For its fifth year, IF will continue to bring the best in documentaries to upstate NY. “24x36: A Movie About Movie Posters” (Kevin Burke) will open the festivities. The reality continues with an intimate take on Stanley Kubrick: “S is for Stanley” (Alex Infascelli), as well as “Creature Designers: The Frankenstein Complex” (Gilles Penso, Alexandre Poncet)—an enlightening look at special effects history with interviews from masters like Phil Tippett, Rick Baker and Guillermo del Toro. Finally, with a perfect mix between feature film and documentary, “Belief: The Possession of Janet Moses” (David Stubbs) mind-blowingly blurs the lines between reality and fiction in this account of a New Zealand exorcism.
