Jinga Films and New Normal Productions are pleased to announce completion of principal photography on Julian Richards' supernatural thriller REBORN starring Barbara Crampton (Beyond The Gates), Michael Pare (The Lincoln Lawyer), Chaz Bono (American Horror Story) and introduciing newcomer Kayleigh Gilbert.
In Reborn, a stillborn baby girl is abducted by a morgue attendant and brought back to life by electrokinetic power. On her sixteenth birthday she escapes captivity and sets out to find her birth mother leaving a trail of destruction behind her. Rae Dawn Chong (Commando) and Monte Markham (The Rift) round up the cast.
Filmed on location in Los Angeles, REBORN is written by Michael Mahin, from a story by Jeannie McGinnis who also produced through her company New Normal Productions. John Penney (Return Of The Living Dead III) serves as Executive Producer.
“I am thrilled to have an accomplished genre director like Julian Richards bring my story to life” said McGinnis. “He skillfully balances sympathy for the underdog girl left for dead and the chilling horrific chaos she incites."

Jeff Reviews Insidious: The Last Key
"Brilliant parapsychologist Elise Rainier receives a disturbing phone call from a man who claims that his house is haunted. Even more disturbing is the address -- 413 Apple Tree Lane in Five Keys, N.M. -- the home where Elise grew up as a child. Accompanied by her two investigative partners, Rainier travels to Five Keys to confront and destroy her greatest fear -- the demon that she accidentally set free years earlier."
Insidious 3 is directed by Adam Robitel and written by Leigh Whannell. It is produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, and James Wan. It is the fourth installment in the Insidious franchise, and the second in terms of the series's in-story chronology. It stars Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, Leigh Whannell, Spencer Locke, Caitlin Gerard, and Bruce Davison.
Insidious: The Last Key is the second prequel to the Insidious franchise in which we get to learn more about Elise's life as a psychic before she had her neck snapped in the first official film. In a way James Wan and team have found a thousand and one ways to keep Lin Shaye on our big screens despite killing her off early. It probably helps that Leigh Whannell is a member of the parasychology team. So in this one Elise takes her boys back to the home she grew up in and faces the demon that first dragged her into the psychic darkness. There are a couple interesting twists and turns that aren't expected that make it unique. But, ultimately you have another Insidious movie complete with shadow monsters, blind scares, and a demon who steals voices like in Dead Silence.
Still currently in theaters, I think I'd suggest seeing it as a second run rather than hoping for a best of 2018. Fortunately the year is still young and Wan still has more plans for us.

On this day in horror history.... February 17th, 1954
On this day in horror history.... Don Coscarelli is born. Creator of the sci-fi/horror hybrid 'Phantasm', he continues to make some of the most challenging films in the genre. Never wanting to be pinned down, he does what he does and all of us benefit. A truly unique voice.
Jeff Reviews 'Mom and Dad' (2018)
"A teenage girl and her little brother try to survive a wild 24 hours during which a mass hysteria of unknown origins causes parents to turn violently on their own children."
One of the first horror movies of the year comes from Brian Taylor (Gamer, Crank) and stars Nicolas Cage, Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions, Hellboy), Anne Winters, and Zackary Arthur (The 5th Wave). It also cameos, in one of the best casting decisions ever, Lance Henriksen as Cage's character's father. It premiered in the Midnight Madness section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. The film was released this January by Momentum Pictures.
Though not as high octane as you would expect from the man responsible for Crank, Mom and Dad is a clever twist on a concept usually overrun by zombies. These parents aren't actually zombies since they are very much aware of what is happening and even manage to keep some level of intelligence despite their uncontrollable anger. There's also tons of dark humor interwoven into a plot that examines the mental issues that come with being and becoming parents. As a strange static (ala The Signal) influences the parents to find and kill their own children, not anyone elses. Subjects like postpartum depression, middle age crisis, and aging stereotypes become a big part of the joke as parents of all ages attempt to eradicate their own kids. Because if they can bring you into this world, than dammit, they can take you out of it. The soundtrack is also the perfect addition to the mayhem.
As most of you are likely to remember, I am not your everyday Nicolas Cage fan. In fact I usually can't stand him. When it comes to acting he doesn't, instead who shows up all stained faced and seems to dliver lines thinking the influence in his voice is enough to convince us he's really sad, or mad, etc. Otherwise his face never changes. That has been the case for at least 2 decades now and although I may be a late bloomer but while watching Mom and Dad I finally realized what Cage is really good. He's really good at being friggin crazy! Why they tried to make him a serious actor when its obvious he should always play the nutjob I have no idea. I was almost bored to death during the somber moments before parents starting killing their kids and even the supporting cast couldn't keep me awake. But, as soon as the poop hit the pan and Cage went full psycho I was in for the madness. When I declared I'd finally figured out what Cage was good at to Joel he laughed and said "that's because he wasn't acting. He really is crazy." That seems true, since he isn't acting other time, so why would I think he was now?
Mom and Dad is currently available in theaters. Since its one of only 2 offerings to start the New Year with don't go into expecting briliance and you won't be let down.
